Genus - Wayne McGregor ‘Genus’ by Wayne McGregor was created in 2007 and was performed by Paris Opera Ballet. It was inspired from Charles Darwin’s ‘On the origin of species’ and is based around the theories about humankind. (Studio Wayne McGregor, 2019) “I was interested to see how a ballet vocabulary could morph and mutate through a series of iterations, different kinds of physical attitudes, and all that seemed to coalesce around this idea of what is the origin of something.” (thestar.com, 2019) The piece is a male solo which is contrasting to ‘Infra’ and ‘Woolf Works’ which I have reviewed on my blog as they were a duet and a group piece. The male dancer is wearing a black bike-tard which has a white panel down the centre front and back. This may have been used to show an organism or portray a stage in the evolution of humans. In contrast, dancers in ‘Infra’ and ‘Woolf works’ both wore tight fitting nude leotards so the costumes didn’t particularly add a c...
I really enjoyed watching your vlog. I like the way you gone into detail about each choreographic device you want to use and linked them to your chosen stimulus. I think its good how you are stepping out of your comfort zone during your choreography process. You have also made some really good detailed points about Wayne Mc Gregors process. All your ideas sound very good, I look forward to seeing the end result.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI really liked watching your vlog as you have gone into a lot of relevant detail. You have really explored the choreographic devices you are going to use. How have you found using the process of creating movement from listening to the music?
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see your end result.
I am finding the process of choreographing the the music easier than creating movement without the music as I can pick out details in the music and try and use them a highlights within the movement! It also helps me set the pace of movement as I can either complement the music and keep the dynamics similar or use contrasting dynamics to juxtapose the music.
Deletethis vlog is excellent ! you have explained in detail about what choreographic devices you will include within your piece and how you feel they will effect your overall performance.
ReplyDeleteyou have answered all key questions given and explained your answers in depth.
what do you feel your strengths are when creating your solo?
I really enjoyed watching this vlog and you are very confident throughout, well done.
I think one of my strengths within creating my solo is linking the movement to the stimulus. I am choreographing phrases which link to my idea of dementia, for example, a motif spelling out the word dementia.I am also using gestures such as having my hands on my head to link to the symptoms of memory loss and confusion.
